At the beginning of a new year, it’s only natural to be thinking about renewal and about what this next chapter of your life will bring. But while New Year’s Resolutions are supposed to be a good way to make progress toward an improved life, the reality is that most resolutions fall by the wayside sometime before March. Starting the year off with a string of broken resolutions can leave you feeling frustrated and demotivated – the exact opposite of the intended effect.
So instead of giving you a bunch of tips on how to come up with New Year’s Resolutions that would only leave you feeling less-than, we here at Clear Genius wanted to offer some inspiration for your New Year’s aspirations.
What’s an aspiration? According to Merriam-Webster, it’s “a strong desire to achieve something high or great”. That’s exactly what we are all capable of. It’s not about achieving or failing – it’s about the desire for success, and about continuing to work toward something greater than yourself. So if you’d like to ditch the resolutions this year, and aspire to something more, here are a couple of ideas to get you started:
Try something new – One of the reasons people make New Year’s Resolutions is to try to make a change in their lives. But you don’t have to make massive, sweeping changes to get out of a rut or to inject a little excitement in your life.
Learn a new language, run a 5k, take a cooking class, try out for a play, start a business … choose one of your aspirations, and follow where it leads. Just starting with one new thing – especially if it scares you a little bit! – can make a huge difference in your year.
Cherish something old – It can often feel like we live in a disposable culture. But the truth is, there’s a lot of value in substance over speed. This year, why not choose some things to hold on to? That could mean making your grandmother’s pie crust recipe by hand, or calling a friend you haven’t spoken to in years, or returning to a hobby or sport you’ve fallen away from. It’s all about finding the value in something from your past.
Make the world a better place – Here’s the big idea: when it comes to making the world a better place, little changes
can really add up. Spreading a little kindness around will make everyone’s day that much sweeter. And when you consider the Earth with your actions – like by switching from Brita or Pur to a Clear Genius reusable filter pod and keeping 300+ water bottles and 6-12 filter cartridges from the landfill each year – then you can literally make the world a better place for us all to live.
Go ahead and love yourself – We saved the best for last. No matter what you aspire to do in the coming year, you can’t achieve greatness if you’re constantly tired, stressed out, and overwhelmed. Why not aspire to do better by yourself this year? Get plenty of rest. Choose foods that fuel your body. And start every day feeling hydrated and refreshed with a tall glass of pure, clean-tasting water. Invest the time to treat yourself right, and you’ll be amazed at all you can do.
